According to (ISC)2, one of the largest IT security organisations, global skill shortage in the area of cybersecurity has surpassed four million. The amount is based on their recent Cybersecurity Workforce Study, based on interviews with more than 3200 security professionals worldwide.
The number of unfilled positions has risen from 2.93 million last year to 4.07 million right now. In Europe itself, the number has doubled from 142,000 to 291,000. (ISC)2 claims security workforce needs to increase by 145% to cope with a constant surge in the demand. In Europe, this problem is particularly visible in smaller companies with 1-99 employees, as well as those with over 500 employees.
