A recent report on the impact of cybercrime on SMB and mid-market has been commissioned by the National Cyber Security Alliance and polled 1,006 small business decision-makers. Researchers found that small and middle-sized companies are mostly aware of cyber threats they are facing and nearly half of them feel adequately prepared. This feeling, however, may be misleading.
Past year, almost 30% of surveyed businesses have experienced an official security breach, a number that ranges from 11% for companies with 1–10 employees, to 44% among those with 251–400 employees. Following a breach, 69% were knocked offline for a limited time, 37% experienced financial loss, 25% filed for bankruptcy, and 10% went out of business.
