TrialWorks, a legal case management software provider with more than 40,000 active users, has been targeted by a ransomware attack this month. The following service disruption affected dozens of major law firms, which had to request the postponement of some cases in court, as it was not possible for them to submit their documentation.
Initially, on 13 October TrialWorks informed their customers of a hosting outage at their data center, however the next day they admitted to having been hacked. On 15 October, two days after the attack, the company announced that their systems are clean and they are now decrypting all the data. This suggests that the company has paid ransom and luckily for them, the keys they received enabled them to restore their customers' data.
