400 Dental Offices Hit by Ransomware

On August 26, ransomware called Sodinokibi swept through more than 400 dental offices around the US, encrypting patient charts, x-rays, payment information. To launch the attack the hackers compromised an online cloud-based data backup provider, DDS Safe, used in dental practices to safeguard their data. The provider has most likely paid the ransom, although it is not known how much was demanded and whether all data has been recovered.
